kai's earth and earth gifts

I studied photography at college and university. After my student years I worked as a freelance news/reportage photographer. Some of my pictures found their way into publications such as The Guardian and The Independent, and I had the pleasure of working with The Lancet, illustrating an entire Christmas edition booklet of short stories. I have exhibited at several venues such as the Poetry cafe in London and at Knole House in Sevenoaks with The National Trust. I also worked for a number of years as a bookseller at Waterstones and Oxfam. I had my son just shy of 40 at which point I turned away from current affairs and politics and shifted my visually inquisitive focus onto more inwardly matters such as my relationship with him, with nature and the world inside me. In 2021 we uprooted and changed bricks for wheels. We have been living in a caravan since. One hot summer day, I was inspired to make a walking stick out of a cypress/cedar tree, which fell down in high winds behind our caravan. In retrospect, this point marked the beginning of a new chapter on my creative journey. Now, as well as my photography, I work with wood, resin and copper to make tangible objects, drawing on the mysteries that nature and the universe keeps so beautifully hidden.
